A boiler service is a routine maintenance check that helps ensure your boiler is working safely, efficiently, and reliably. Here's what's typically involved in a professional boiler service:

1. Visual Inspection

• Check the boiler and surrounding area for signs of leaks, corrosion, or damage.

• Ensure the boiler is properly installed and meets safety regulations.

2. Internal Inspection & Cleaning

• Remove the boiler casing to inspect internal components.

• Clean key parts like the heat exchanger, burner, and fan if necessary.

3. Gas and Pressure Checks

• Test the gas pressure and flow to ensure it's at the correct level.

• Check the pressure of the boiler and top it up if needed.

4. Flue and Combustion Test

• Inspect the flue to make sure it's safely removing waste gases.

• Use a flue gas analyser to check combustion emissions (carbon monoxide levels, etc.).

5. Safety and Controls Check

• Test all boiler controls, thermostats, and safety devices.

• Ensure the boiler turns on and off correctly and operates as it should.

6. Condensate Trap and Pipe Check

• Clean and inspect the condensate trap (especially in condensing boilers).

• Make sure the condensate pipe isn’t blocked or frozen.

7. Service Record and Recommendations

• Record the service in the boiler’s logbook.

• Provide a service report and recommend any repairs or further work if needed.

A boiler service typically takes 30–60 minutes and should be done annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer (in the UK) or equivalent in your country. Regular servicing helps extend the boiler’s life, improve energy efficiency, and keep your warranty valid.
